LOCATION: Nashville VAMC, 1310 24th Ave South, Nashville, ACRE bldg, Room F-206
This program will focus on the practical value of the APA code of ethics, such as how to identify professional traps, how ethical behavior and professional impairment are related, and how to use the code of ethics to avoid professional traps and impairments. Participants will learn the value of colleague relationships, including formal and informal professional associations and learn about research exploring the hazards of professional isolation. Participants will be able to approach ethical issues and resolve ethical situations in constructive and practical ways. The group will also be given an opportunity to explore other collaborative relationships.
Learning objectives:
- Participants will understand the principles of ethics in psychology and their application through examination of ethical dilemmas that deal with professional impairments.
- Participants will become familiar with how ethical standards in the APA Ethics Code may be applied in day-to-day work of psychologists, especially as these standards relate to professional impairment.
- Participants will learn about the goals and objectives of the Tennessee Colleague Assistance Foundation, the policies and procedures of the Foundation and how to access services.
- Participants will learn how to develop a peer consultation group.
Participant Skill Level: Introductory-Intermediate Level
- Basic acquaintance with principles and practice of clinical psychology.
- Knowledge of the APA Code of Ethics;
- No knowledge needed regarding the Tennessee Colleague Assistance Foundation
Continuing Education Options:
Type I CE credits are available for participants through NAPA at no cost.
1.5 Hours of CE hours are approved through the Tennessee Psychological Association (TPA) for those present between 7:00 – 8:30. The Tennessee Psychological Association (TPA) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. TPA maintains responsibility for this program. There is a charge of $15, payable to the Tennessee Psychological Association. Attendees must attend the entire program to receive credit; partial credit cannot be given.
Note: This meeting is free of charge for all NAPA members current with 2010 dues. Guests are welcome, but there is a $10 charge to cover the costs of the speaker honorarium and food.
